Jerusalem in my heart es un lugar al que no se puede llegar pero que existe en una realidad interior no tangible. Un proyecto personal sobre identidad, conflicto y geopolítica en el contexto de un artista árabe que vive y trabaja en occidente.
Es una propuesta audio-visual en vivo que se viene desarrollando desde 2005 en Montreal, Canadá y que actualmente la componen Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, quien lleva la música, en colaboración con Charles-André Coderre en la parte visual.
Formalmente viene a ser algo así como una instalación artística que se activa en forma de performances con público, y que son algo único e irrepetible; se dan muy pocas al año y ninguna es igual a la otra, además de que siempre varía el número de participantes que la componen.
El sonido de JIMH se basa principalmente en la voz, que Radwan combina con una mezcla de instrumentos electrónicos y tradicionales, investigando el lado mas experimental de lo tradicional. Para él éstos son mundos que están mucho mas próximos de lo que en un principio pueda parecer, y de este encuentro y puesta en común surge lo que llama "New Arabic Music".
En lo visual el artista y cineasta Charles-André Coderre no trabaja directamente con vídeo, si no que genera imágenes con varios proyectores de 16mm e instalaciones de luz para interactuar con la música de Radwan en un guión predefinido con varios meses de antelación pero abierto a una total improvisación.
Radwan es el corazón del proyecto. De origen libanés se traslado a Canadá donde entró en contacto con la nutrida escena independiente musical y desde los 16 años ha estado involucrado en varias bandas y proyectos de la zona. Sin embargo no se separó nunca de su Beirut natal donde también desarrolla otros proyectos y con la que sigue manteniendo un vínculo cultural muy fuerte. Ahora trabaja como ingeniero de sonido y productor en el estudio de Montreal Hotel2Tango junto a otros componentes de bandas míticas de la escena post-rock canadiense de los 90 como Godspeed You! Black Emperor o Do Make Say Think. El estudio se ha convertido para él en un gran instrumento de composición con el que convertir en sonidos sus ideas; y así se han grabado sus dos discos publicados en el sello Constellation Records, mas un tercero en colaboración con sus amigos de la banda canadiense Suuns publicado en Secretly Canadian.
Además de participar en diversos grupos de teatro, danza y performance, Radwan está empezando a trabajar en un nuevo disco de JIMH que pretende finalizar en aproximadamente un año. Para este próximo disco tiene intención de dirigir a una orquesta oriental de 20 instrumentistas y grabar en El Cairo una pieza de 20 minutos de duración. A todo esto se suma un proyecto de película historico-ficcional basada en un libro sobre la guerra civil del Líbano y que él mismo quiere dirigir en colaboración con su mujer la escritora Alexei Perry Cox.
En este mix que os presentamos Radwan ha querido compilar música nueva que ha estado escuchando últimamente y huir de hacer un supermix con la mejor selección, sólo 3 de las canciones que lo componen son algo mas viejas que el resto pero están incluidas porque han formado parte de su banda sonora mas reciente al haber adquirido copias físicas hace poco. Esto de seleccionar música es algo que él no hace habitualmente y, de hecho, le parece un tanto estresante pero nos comenta que ha disfrutado mucho haciéndolo y siendo consciente de la implicación que toda esta música tiene en su momento vital actual.
A nosotros nos parece que ha hecho un trabajo tan altamente estimulante como honesto y creemos que debería explotar mas frecuentemente su faceta como pinchadiscos.

Jerusalem in my heart is a place you can not go but it exists in a non tangible inner reality. A personal project about identity, conflict and geopolitics in the context of an arab artist living and working in the west.
It's a live audio-visual project that is being developed since 2005 in Montreal, Canada as a collaboration between Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, in charge of the musical part, and Charles-André Coderre for the visuals.
Formally it is something like an art installation that is triggered by means of unique and unrepeatable performances. Happenings that occur very few times per year and none is equal to the other, besides the number of participants in it is constantly changing.
The sound of JIMH is mainly based on voice that Radwan combines with a mix of electronic and tradicional instruments, going to the most experimental side of the tradicional world. As Radwan himself states “They are two worlds that are so much closer than we think they are”. The way he envision this combination it’s what he calls "New Arabic Music".
Visual counterpart of Radwan, Charles-André Coderre does not use any video but he generates images and film loops to use with several 16 mm projectors and light installations to interact with Radwan's music in an already predefined script months in advance but completely open to improvisation.
Radwan is the heart of the proyect. Born in Lebano he moved to Canada where he got in touch with the rich independent music scene, since his 16 he’s been involved in several bands and projects there. However he never broke away with his native Beirut where he develops other projects and still have an strong cultural connection with. Now he works as sound engineer and producer in Hotel2Tango in Montreal together with other components of legendary Canadian post-rock bands from the 90s like Gospeed You! Balck Emperor or Do Make Say Think. Studio has became for him a big composition tool to shape the sounds in order to match with his ideas; So he has recorded his two albums released in Constellation Records plus a third one in collaboration with his close friends from Canadian band Suuns, this one being published in Secretly Canadian.
Besides taking part in several theater, dance and performance groups, Radwan has already started to work in JIMH new album which he expects to finish within a year. For this new album he will involve a full 20 piece oriental orchestra that he will commission next year in Cairo to record a 20 minute musical piece. Furthemore he will direct in collaboration with his wife, writer Alexei Perry Cox, a history/ fiction film which is an adaptation of a book about Lebanon civil war.
In this mix for Casi Baile Radwan wanted to compile new music he’s been listening lately and not doing a super mix with amazing stuff, actually just three of the songs in it are a bit older than the rest but he included them becase he recently got physical copies of them and are part of his current life soundtrack. Selecting music for people is something that Radwan does not make very often, it’s something a bit stressful for him in fact. On the other hand he enjoyed a lot picking the songs for us and being aware at that moment of how deep is currently all of this music in him.
In our opinion we has done a strongly honest and emotional work and we think he should explore more often his face as a music selector.
